Breast Cancer and Nutrients

The most important issue to any women is preventing it and this may be the answer you are looking for

Breast cancer and nutrients, is there any real connection?

This is one of the most debated of all topics involving cancer and nutrients, and there are a lot of suggestions that Vitamin D as well as other nutrients may help with this very threatening type of cancer.

However, there are also other sides of the argument that suggest that too much Vitamin D may actually cause this form of cancer to grow even faster.

But there is one factor that is very hard to dispute; the vast majority of women that have breast cancer also have a deficiency of vitamin D.

But vitamins are not the only form of nutrient that may help with this disease, as there are also several herbs that may be able to slow it down or prevent in some cases.

WHAT IS IT ?

In fully understanding the connection between breast cancer and nutrients, it is very helpful to understand exactly what this disease is, as well as the symptoms, potential causes, and the risk factors.

Breast cancer is very simple to understand as it is a cancer that forms in the cells of your breasts.

However, what is well known is that it can and does affect both men and women, but is far and away much more common in women.

In fact, other than skin cancer, it is the most common form of cancer that will attack women, and because of this, it is the most feared of all diseases by women.

There is also one other fact that is not well known; in the last several years the rates of breast cancer have fallen significantly, although most professional are not sure exactly why.

One of the reasons is believed to be the excellent system that is now in place to pre-screening for this disease.

However there is a lot of speculation that the other major reason is that there is a real definitive connection between breast cancer and nutrients.

The survival rates of this form of cancer have also dramatically increased because of early detection as well as advanced treatments.

However there is a side of this argument that also believe that this is the result of women taking care of their bodies much better through diet as well as by supplementing with nutrients.

THE SYMPTOMS

The actual connection between breast cancer and nutrients all begins with understanding the signs and symptoms that you can watch for.

The most telling and the first of the symptoms is a breast lump or thickening that will feel much different than the tissue that surrounds it.

In some cases this may just be a cyst, but it can also very easily be a tumor and should never, under any circumstances, be ignored.

The next set of symptoms may be a bloody discharge from your nipple, a change in size or shape of your breast, as well as changes to the skin that cover the breast area.

If this is the case, the most classic sign will be in the form of dimpling.

However, the list does not end there as you may also develop what is referred to as an inverted nipple, a peeling or flaking of the skin of the nipple, as well as redness or pitting like appearance.

If this does occur, your breast skin will closely resemble the skin of an orange with small pitting areas.

THE CAUSES AND RISK FACTORS

Breast cancer and nutrients next major steps are the actual causes as well of some of the most common risk factors.

Although the exact cause is still not fully understood, what is known is that some of your breast cells will begin to grow abnormally.

When this occurs, these affected cells will begin to divide much more rapidly than healthy cells, and as they begin to accumulate, they form a tumor.

Once a tumor forms, it can very easily metastasize or spread to other parts of your body including your lymph nodes.

There are several major risk factors that will place you in jeopardy of developing this form of cancer.

They include genetic or inherited risks such as defective genes as well as a family history of cancer. Increasing age is also a factor, some types of radiation exposure, as well as obesity.

However, this list is still not complete as it is also believed that if you begin your period before the age of 12, it increases your risks.

Menopause at an older age, generally after 55 years old, also increases your risk. Having your first child after the age of 35 and heavy alcohol abuse may also be factors.

BREAST CANCER AND NUTRIENTS

Nutrients for breast cancerBreast cancer and nutrients center on Vitamin D

Breast cancer and nutrients actual connections have two almost completely opposite sides, and this is a topic that only you can fully decide for yourself.

However, in a recent study done by Paula Goodwin, MD, professor at the University of Toronto, there were some very interesting facts that developed concerning Vitamin D.

It was found in these studies that 94% of the women with a deficiency of this nutrient at the time that they were diagnosed, had the cancer spread to other parts of their body.

It was also found in this study that because of this, 73% of these women were more likely to die within 10 years as compared to women that had as adequate supply of this vitamin when they were diagnosed with this form of cancer.

This test also found one other very startling fact; more than one in every three women have a vitamin D deficiency.

Although this is certainly not all inclusive, it should be a real warning sign to have your levels of Vitamin D checked as often as possible.

However, the connection between breast cancer and nutrients gets even more interesting as your breast cells have what is referred to as vitamin D receptors.

When these receptors are activated by this nutrient, it immediately triggers a series of changes to occur.

These changes are molecular changes that can very easily slow down the speed of the abnormal cells growth and in most cases, cause them to die.

If this occurs, you may still develop the cancer, but it will be much easier to treat as well as much less aggressive.

In fact, in the same test, only 24% of the women that were diagnosed had adequate levels of vitamin D, 37% were deficient and about 39% had very low levels.

However, there is also one other caveat to this argument.

There have also been tests done on mice that were given large dosages of vitamin D and the abnormal cells actually grew quicker because it became trapped in their fatty tissues and started to feed the disease.

However, if the dosages were not extreme and considered to be normal, this nutrient did stop the growth of the abnormal cells in the mice.

Breast cancer and nutrients will also include some herbs that may help fight this very dangerous form of cancer.

The first of these herbs include Cats’ claw which has been used for centuries and has very strong anticancer properties, as well as Curcumin.

Curcumin is an extract from the ancient spice turmeric, and it has also been used for thousands of years to fight several diseases.

It is becoming very popular in the United States as an anti-cancer non-conventional form of both treatment as well as prevention.

The herb saw palmetto is also believed to slow down the growth of abnormal cells

Summary

Breast cancer and nutrients are still controversial, but there is a lot of momentum growing, especially for vitamin D and how it may not only slow down this form of cancer, it may also prevent it.

However, the worst thing you could do is take large dosages of it as all the studies have shown that all you need is the basic requirements which can be found in a strong multivitamin to prevent a deficiency.
